The brief was to find a pre-existing copy and design a book that conveys the content through spreads, color, and typography. I made a hardcover from scratch and burned each letter of the title into the leather. The texture and haphazard design give the reader a sensory preview to what they should expect from the short story.
"The Most Dangerous Game" is a short story by Richard Connell. The story features a big-game hunter from New York City who falls off a yacht and swims to what seems to be an abandoned and isolated island in the Caribbean, where he is hunted by a Russian aristocrat.
The story is inspired by the big-game hunting safaris in Africa and South America that were particularly fashionable among wealthy Americans in the 1920s.
Transparencies were bound inside the book to lay over the text, enhancing the , experience with the content.
As the protagonist is being hunted by the antagonist, the spread and type design begins to change.
